FMP Ideas

For my final major project, I want to create a series of images that relate to the area of photography that I am interested in. The area that is a passion is children portraiture therefore I want to base it around this.

I have also thought about moving away from the idea of working with children and creating a different series whereby I photograph a different subject.

Idea 1;  - Children's Mugshots

This idea will include a series of children ranging from 3-7 year olds, mixture of boys and girls. Each child will have photographs that are from different angles such as front on, and their two sides. They will hold a board containing either the standard case number or a word/sentence relating to their personality - what sums them up and describes them as a person. Maybe use of the children's input of what word to use. I also want to include the standard height background behind the children. This will add to the overall image and help build on the story.
I could also use a statement of a made up crime on the board such as being cheeky, grumpy etc.

The image below shows my research my idea after thinking the idea up.

Idea 2 - Double Exposures
For this idea I want to combine two images together. Again children will be used. The idea behind this is to present the child's personality in two different ways - their everyday identity and a fairytale character that they love and merge them together.
The image below has given me the inspiration for this idea where I have adapted it to fit the area of photography I want to follow. It is an image created of the Avenger actors where they have created a double exposure including their film characters which fits within their body. It shows that it is a part of them.

Idea 3 -  Small People
This idea has been done before, so if I were to pursue it I would need to change it so that it isn't copying it. I think the idea of recreating a scene in the everyday situation using model people is brilliant and so clever. It works really well. The images that also show the people up close and then in the real situation allows for great perspective of how small the scene is.
Photographers that I have seen in this style are "Slinkachu", "Matthew Carden" and "Kirsty Hall" Book - Little People. http://kirstyhall.co.uk/2007/09/13/little-people-blog/

I want to look at rein-acting famous iconic photographs by using the small people such as the Times square kissing and the workers having lunch on the 69th floor of the Rockefeller.

  1. The mugshot series would be great fun, especially by letting the children have their own input but I'd rather like to see your own take on the little people series.

  2. I think the mugshot idea is your strongest - would be good to see some edgy images. Your other two ideas could also work, but you would need to come at them from a unique point of view.

  3. Your first idea is the strongest out if the three but you have three very interesting ideas. I would like to see what the outcome will be for the mugshot series but I think whatever idea to chose to go with will be good to see & you will have a lot of fun doing them.

  4. I agree that your strongest idea is the mugshot one, probably best to create fun name plates and steer away from controversial shots. I also like your second idea - it fits in well with your specialism and will allow you to be creative. I'd also like to see the ideas for your little people series and the shots you would set up.

  5. 3 Really varied and great ideas! I have seen the 'small people' theme done quite a few times whereas 1 and 2 seem pretty unique, and would look awesome if the shoots turn out well. The mugshots could look fun and quirky, so I agree with the others that you should go through with it. I hope the kids behave themselves for you!

  6. I would like to agree with the rest of peers because the mugshot idea is definitely an idea you would be very strong at and it seems like a lot of fun but on the other hand I love the double exposure idea because if different somthing you wouldn't normally do, so what try somthing different your usual work as we may all be surprised with what other talents you may have hidden

  7. The second idea that you have chosen would be using more of your creativity which i would like to see as i can see this being up in the exhibition and showing off more of your digital skills, however the first idea you have is more you and represents you and i can see that you have more passion with the first idea and i no that you will create a lovely series of images i think its a very fun and cheeky idea that i would love to see.

  8. I like idea 2 best, but I would like to see it done in a more fine art way and not commercial. Idea 1 is fun, but you need to make sure the association between children and mug shoots are done in a ethical way. Good luck.
